Application and Interaction
My Reflection
The interviews in this week’s lectures identify the question of ‘How do you develop a strategy and project plan for a client/audience in a continually evolving global market?’. Taking away the experience of these designers, we should set out and identify the structure of our strategy and project plan. If we have trouble in creating such a plan, then we should make time to research and structure the project beforehand so we can have a plan in place to research and develop correctly at the beginning of any given project. We need to consider as well as to how the project might evolve as we set out our strategy and project plan which can actually bring opportunities a whole lot of new findings in the process that wasn’t expected. So we need to create an environment to be free and flexible to challenge our ideas and talk to the people involved in the project. Torsten Posselt from Feld, Berlin describes the role of the Graphic Designer isn’t about shapes, type, grid layout and etc. it’s mainly based on communication that leads to a successful brief. In saying this he is referring to us being curious and ask questions in the right manner to communicate to the client, audience, and other stakeholders to get the right answers and opinion towards developing the outcome. This is basically the ingredient into what makes a strategy and project plan evolve in the process, asking the questions to find new discovery that can lead to new findings that weren’t expected.

This chapter on ‘Anticipating and Overcoming Obstacles’ was a great read on how to challenge obstacles in your personal experience and environment situations. This is a great insight on how to deal with overcoming these by making people’s opinions turned into a positive structural reflection. Then also dealing with issues that are out of control, which you have to adapt in ways of meeting your goals. I find myself challenged every week on this course with my own personal and environmental obstacles. These can be such as low confidence in my writing abilities to managing my time with working around family and work to reach or keep on top of my weekly deadlines. So with this, I would like to create my own list of obstacles that can really highlight the subjects that can personally help me reflect and better myself to get things right and keep on time.
KATEE HUI, Hackney Laces
27th September 2018 | LONDON
Katee Hui’s talk at the Glug event is a great inspiration and insight in her initiative to bring something she really enjoys to a community that was a hunger to do something positive in their own life. Katee reached out to the people in her community in starting a woman’s football club in the heart of Hackney, London to help those looking to be motivated through play. I loved the way this impacted the lives of individual women’s well-being to make changes in their own life goals. She really thought through the stages of this so-called project in adapting new change for those that had their own problems to attend practice by setting up support networks that allow women to participate. This was such a great story to how it started from a walk in the park talking to a couple of girls who wanted to play football and then expanding to more communities across London through this positive impact. Overall this does show how communication and dealing with obstacles did help to blossom this idea to something bigger and positive impact on the life of people in their own community. Whatever challenge was put in front of Katee, she was able to think in new ways and talk about the process in a lovely narrative outcome that was constantly evolving throughout its journey. There is still more room I would guess for the Hackney Laces to go that step further to reach its goal.
Workshop Challenge
Through my research this week, I thoroughly did some desk research into my area of the topic with those that are diagnosed with Dyslexia suffering Mental Health issues. Personally, I thought there would be plenty of awareness campaigns out there that would sit heavily on this subject, which would be difficult to develop. Overall there is actually not much awareness or support network for people with Dyslexia that suffer from Mental Health. I did come across a few blogs talking around the subject and also many well-known charities, such as the British Dyslexia Association that raise the issue on the subject of Mental Health. This doesn’t really stand out to be fair for information on the awareness of this issue.
I created a Creative Conscience board in Milanote to help me structure my strategy and project plan so I can organise key research to help me identify a direction for my research. This is a helpful tool to help me visually organise my criteria and place notes where appropriate in my process.
Overall this is a great start to my research and finding it easy to organise my research in a place I can always refer back to. It helps me to keep tabs on information so I don’t have to google search through keywords to find the resource I’m referring to.
I was saying in my research I found there is not much counseling for people with Dyslexia. there was only one practice in the UK that specialises in this area called GroOops that deal with people’s emotional issues. It really surprising that there is more support around this service for people dealing with day-to-day challenges with Dyslexia. So this is a great starting ground for me to find why there isn’t many more support network as service like this for people that struggle with anxiety and low self-esteem.
